Toying Around Reviews - MOTU Masterverse New Adventures He-Man

Updated: Jul 30, 2023

Welcome back, for this week's review we will be taking a look at the New Adventures He-Man figure. The New Adventures of He-Man is an animated series that ran in syndication for one season of 65 episodes in 1990. New Adventures was intended to be a continuation of the Filmation series that ran from 1983-85 but Filmation closed its doors in 1989, one year before the series was set to air. Jetlag Productions picked up the animation for the series, hence why it looks different from the original series.

Masters of the Universe™ Masterverse celebrates MOTU™ content from Masters of the Universe™: Revelation™ to New Eternia™! The Masterverse collection of 7-inch action figures includes heroes like He-Man™, villains like Skeletor™, and other fan-favorite characters for display and storytelling fun. With a minimum of 30 points of articulation, each figure is extremely posable for action moves and epic displays! Each character figure comes with at least one accessory, like a battle weapon or swappable head! The Masterverse figures make a great gift for collectors and fans, who will appreciate the preservation of MOTU™ traditions combined with modernized design elements!

PACKAGING:

Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.

The Masterverse box comes in a nice size angled box, at the top, it tells you the figure has 30 points of articulation. Below that we have a big window that showcases the figure and the accessories. At the bottom of the box, we have the New Adventures logo since this figure is from the New Adventures tv show, below that we have He-Man’s name. Turning the box to the side we have He-Man's name running down the side. The side of the box also lets us know that he is the “GALACTIC PROTECTOR!”. On the back of the box, we have some amazing artwork of He-Man. Next to the artwork, we have a bio, “By the Power of Eternia! The endangered plant of Primus is under attack by The Evil Mutants, leaving the Galactic Guardians but one choice. They travel back through time to summon the one hero who could save them: He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe." Below that, we have pictures of other figures in this wave that you can pick up, EVIL-LYN, FROSTA, ROBOTO, and STRATOS. Turning the box around one more time we have some more artwork of He-Man.

INSIDE OF THE BOX:

Let's take a look at how the figure comes packed inside.

He-Man and all his accessories come packed in a plastic tray. The sword and shield and He-Man himself are plastic tied into the tray. Behind the clamshell was this rock wall, I think more of a space background would have been better since this He-Man is out in the universe fighting.

OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:

Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.

Now that we have He-Man out of the packaging we can see the little details that Mattel has added to this figure. At first, I thought they were going to be matching this figure to the cartoon series, but that is not the case. This figure is to copy the original 90s action figure. The outfit, armor, and sword are all how the 90s toy looked. I do wish they had made him look more like the cartoon and not the old toy.

ACCESSORIES:

Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.

He-Man comes with The Sword of Power, a Power Shield, Body Armor, a Helmet, and left and right-fisted hands, the figure comes with left and right-gripping hands already attached.

ARTICULATION:

How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!

HE-MANS’ ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

DUMBBELL JOINTED NECK - This allows you to turn the head 360 degrees.

BALL-HINGED SHOULDERS -These give the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.

UPPER BICEP SWIVEL -This cut lets you turn the whole arm below the cut 360 degrees.

DOUBLE-JOINTED ELBOWS -This allows you to bend the arm past 90 degrees.

SWIVEL HINGE WRISTS -This allows you to turn the wrists in a full 360-degree circle while bending them up and down.

DIAPHRAGM SWIVEL -This lets you turn the figure around 360 degrees at the diaphragm.

WAIST SWIVEL -This lets you turn the figure around 360 degrees at the waist.

BALL JOINTED LEGS -With this it allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.

UPPER THIGH SWIVEL -The leg can rotate around a full 360 degrees.

DOUBLE-JOINTED KNEES - The joint allows you to bend the leg itself back to the butt of the figure.

BOOT CUT - This cut lets you swivel the boot around 360 degrees.

HINGED ANKLES WITH ROCKERS - The ankle hinge allows you to bend the foot front and back. The rockers will enable you to rock the ankles towards the outside and inside of the legs of the figure.

SIZE COMPARISON:

How does the size of this figure compare to others?

He-Man stands right about this 7-inch mark. For size comparison, we have our New Adventures He-Man standing next to New Eternia He-Man, the 40th Anniversary He-Man, and the Revelations He-Man, all from the Mattel Masterverse figure line.

RATING:

What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?

PAINT JOB 3.5/5 - overall there isn't much paint on the figure, but what paint there is, it's done very well. I would like some more paint on him but they are trying to make him look like the 90s figure, and Mattel nailed it.

FIGURE SCULPT 2/5 - The head sculpt for me doesn't look that good, I know they were trying to make it look like an updated version of the 90s figure but it just looks off and a little too small for the body.

POSING 5/5 - nothing to complain about here. You can get this He-Man into any pose you would want to from the show.

ACCESSORIES: 5/5 - He comes with everything the 90s figure came with, and a little more with the interchangeable hands.

DURABILITY 3.5/5 - overall the plastic is good. My figure for whatever reason has a hard time standing on his own, I can not pin down the reason for it.

OVERALL SCORE 3.8/5 - This figure isn't a must need but if you are a completest or liked watching the show growing up then I do say get him.
