Toying Around Reviews - MMPR Green Ranger Retro 30th Anniversary

Updated: Jul 30, 2023

Today we are taking a look at this new 30th Anniversary Basic Green Ranger from Hasbro. This figure is a Walmart store exclusive and is part of the "retro" line. This line comes with figures and zords that have basic paint jobs and also have a box inside that you can flip to make it look like a VHS tape to display the figure on or next to if you would like.

PACKAGING:

Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.

This Green Ranger comes in a rectangle-style box. The MMPR logo is at the top, A picture of the Green Ranger is in the middle with the name Mighty Morphin Green Ranger at the bottom. Turning the box to the side we again have the MMPR logo and the name Mighty Morphin Green Ranger, below that is letting us know that this box is plastic-free. The back of the box has a little write-up, "THE GREEN RANGER MORPHS INTO BATTLE WITH THE POWER OF THE DRAGONZORD!" Next to that, we have a CGI picture of the Green Ranger and what comes inside. Turning the box around one more time we have the MMPR logo, Mighty Morphin Green Ranger name and the 30th anniversary logo at the bottom.

INSIDE OF THE BOX:

Let's take a look at how the figure comes packed inside.

The Green Ranger comes packed inside the box in some tissue paper that has the MMPR logo on it. If you turn the box he is in upside down they made it look like an old VHS tape.

OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:

Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.

Taking the Green Ranger out of of the packaging we get a good look at the small details Hasbro put into this guy for us. There are little wrinkles in the suit to make it look like fabric. The only downside is they made the dagger holder white, it should be black. This was most likely due to a paint budget.

ACCESSORIES:

Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.

Green Ranger comes with his Dragon Sagger, The Sword of Darkness, his Dragon Shield, which is removable, and a holographic power coin.

ARTICULATION:

How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!

GREEN RANGERS’ ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

MUSHROOM PEGGED HEAD - This allows you to turn the head 360 degrees around

BALL-HINGED SHOULDERS - Gives the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.

SINGLE JOINTED SWIVEL ELBOWS - This allows you to bend and turn the arm about 90 degrees.

BALL JOINTED LEGS - With this it allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.

SINGLE JOINTED SWIVEL KNEES - The joint allows you to bend the leg and also turn the bottom part of the leg 360 degrees.

SIZE COMPARISON:

How does the size of this figure compare to others?

This new Green Ranger stands right at the 6-inch mark. Here he is standing next to the Bandai Basic figure, The Hasbro Lighting Collection, and the Bandai Legacy Collection Green Rangers.

RATING:

What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?

PAINT JOB 1/5 - I get it that this is a basic figure but the holster isn't painted and the weapons are done up in some cheap white plastic. The normal figures at least get a little paint on the weapons.

FIGURE SCULPT 4/5 - The sculpt on the figure is done very well. The added wrinkles in the suit make it look a lot better than I thought it was going to.

POSING 3/5 - I can get him into some good poses but just an extra joint here or there would have gone a long way

ACCESSORIES: 2/5 - Green Ranger comes with everything he should, the removable shield was a nice touch, but cmon! PAINT!

DURABILITY 4/5 - The plastic is nice and strong I don't feel like he is going to be breaking down anytime soon.

OVERALL SCORE 2.8/5 - This is a fun line for kids, but you are trying to make it cool for collectors adding in the VHS thing but missing out on some paint means you are trying to make it for kids too. Pick a lane and go with it.

RETAIL COST: $16.99
