Welcome back for this week's review. We are taking a look at a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Old Man Ralph figure from NECA. This look is based on the Puma Blues book. The National Entertainment Collectibles Association, or NECA, is an American manufacturer of collectibles typically licensed from films, video games, sports, music, and television, based in New Jersey. The company was founded in 1996 and has over 60 product production licenses.
PACKAGING:
Before we open this up, let's check out the packaging.
The front of the box proudly displays the Nickelodeon, Turtles, and NECA logos. The figure itself is prominently displayed in the center of the box, accompanied by all his accessories. Turning the box to the side, we catch a glimpse of the figure from the side, which is convenient for in-box collectors who want to showcase their figures. At the bottom of the box, we find comic book artwork and the number 32, indicating that this is the 32nd figure in this comic line. The back of the box features action-packed photographs of the figure, as well as sneak peeks of upcoming figures. Finally, turning the box around one more time, we’re greeted with more comic book artwork.
INSIDE OF THE BOX:
Let's take a look at how the figure comes packed inside.
Old Man Ralph is packed in a plastic tray with some of his accessories, while the rest are tucked under him. Behind the figure is a slip-in that depicts a New York City street with apartment buildings.
OUTSIDE OF THE BOX:
Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.
As we talk Ralph out of the plastic tray, we get to see that the base for his body is the Jim Lawson style, with a few minor changes. For instance, some added paint deco has been applied to make him appear older than he did before.
ACCESSORIES:
Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.
Ralph carries his two Sai, three throwing knives, three throwing stars, a straw hat, a black cloak, and a manta ray. He also has his hands relaxed, left and right, holding hands, and his hands open, left and right.
ARTICULATION:
How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!
OLD MAN RALPH'S ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
MUSHROOM PEGGED HEAD - This allows you to turn the head 360 degrees around
BALL-HINGED SHOULDERSÂ - Gives the arm 360-degree rotation and also the ability to raise and lower the arm.
UPPER BICEP SWIVELÂ - This cut lets you turn the whole arm below the cut 360 degrees.
DOUBLE JOINTED ELBOWSÂ - This allows you to bend the arm about 90 degrees.
SWIVEL HINGE WRISTSÂ - It allows you to be able to turn the figure's wrists in a full 360-degree circle while also bending them up and down.
BALL JOINTED LEGSÂ - This allows the legs to move out to the side along with some front and back motion.
DOUBLE JOINTED KNEESÂ - The joint allows you to bend the leg itself back to the butt of the figure. (mine are hard to get to move, and I feel like I will break the figure if I keep trying)
ANKLE SWIVELÂ - The ankle swivel lets you turn the feet a full 360 degrees.
BALL-HINGED TAILÂ - This lets you move the tail up and down, left and right in 360 degrees.
SIZE COMPARISON:
How does the size of this figure compare to others?
Old Man Ralph stands approximately 6.5 inches tall. For comparisons first up we have our new Ralph standing next to the Jim Lawson Ralph, and Ralph from "The Last Ronin" comic book. Next up, we have Ralph from the cartoon and Ralph from the Archie Comics, wearing a black suit.
RATING:
What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure?
PAINT JOB 4.5/5 - As always, NECA did a really good job on this figure, making him look like he came right out of the comic book
FIGURE SCULPT 5/5 - The sculpt is on point
POSING 4.5/5 -Â The posing is almost perfect. The joints are a little tight and the outfit he has on makes it a little hard to get him to get his arms all the way up.
ACCESSORIES: 4.5/5 - An extra head with a different expression would have made this a homerun
DURABILITY 5/5 - The plastic is nice, even though the joints are a little tight in some spots, I don't feel like he will break like the older NECA figures would
OVERALL SCORE 4.7/5 - If you are a TMNT or a NECA fan, I say pick him it up if you can.
RETAIL COST: $34.99
TIME FOR SOME TOYING AROUND!
