Toying Around Reviews - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadow Ninjas Raphael

Today we will be taking a look at the TMNT Shadow Ninjas from Playmates Toys. Each figure in this line is a stylized version of one of the Fab Four.

PACKAGING: Before we open this up, let's take a look at the packaging.

Raphael comes in a black square box. The front of the box has the Nick logo at the top with Raphael running down the left side of the box. The middle/right side of the box displays Raphael. The bottom of the box has the Shadow Ninjas and the Ninja Turtles logo running across. turning the box to the side we get a nice side view of Raphael. This is perfect for any of our collector friends that might want to keep the figure mint in the box. The side also again displays Raphael’s name along the backside and the Turtles logo at the bottom. Flipping the box to the back, on the left we get some cartoon drawings of the four Turtles. along with a little story. Raised in the sewers, the teenage mutant ninja turtles have been warned to stay below ground. But they know that to defeat any evil mutant that threatens to terrorize the city, they must lurk in the shadows and always be prepared for battle. On the right side of the box, we get that same artwork of Raphael’s face that also wraps around to the next side. Moving the box around one more time, we get Raphael’s face to continue wrapping around the box. We also get the Shadow Ninjas logo at the top and Raphael’s name at the bottom.

OUTSIDE OF THE BOX: Let's open the box and take a closer look at the figure.

Taking Raphael out of the box we do get a good look at how stylized the figure really is. We also get to see the really cool paint job they used on him, making him almost look like he came out of a cartoon, or should we say….the shadows ;-)

ACCESSORIES: Let's see what kind of accessories the figure comes with.

RAPHAEL COMES WITH: two sais

ARTICULATION: How can we pose the figure? Let's find out!

RAPHAEL’S ARTICULATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: MUSHROOM PEGGED NECK This allows you to swivel the head 360 degrees. MUSHROOM PEGGED SHOULDERS This gives the arm 360-degree rotation, however, the arms are hindered by the shell. MUSHROOM PEGGED WRISTS This joint allows you to turn his wrists a full 360 degrees. MUSHROOM PEGGED LEGS This joint allows the legs to move 360 degrees, however, they are hindered by the shell. MUSHROOM PEGGED KNEES The joint allows you to swivel the leg 360 degrees.

SIZE COMPARISON: How does the size of this figure compare to others?

Raphael stands just about 5 inches tall. Here is Raphael standing next to the Rise of the TMNT Raphael that came out at the start of the year.

RATING: What are Baby Huey's scores for the figure? PAINT JOB 5/5 The paint on this figure is so much better than I was expecting it to be. With Playmates sometimes you get a lot of very little. So I wasn’t expecting much from him, but wow I am blown away. FIGURE SCULPT / POSING 5/5 The figure is a stylized version of the Turtles so I wasn’t expecting much. I was very happy to see that Playmates tossed in some extra articulation. DURABILITY 5/5 The figure is very well made and the plastic doesn’t feel cheap at all. OVERALL SCORE 5/5 I went into this review thinking ok, it’s just another turtle to review, and maybe ill return it to Target when I’m done, but I have to say this little guy blew me away and I am very glad to have him. I think I need to get the other 3 now. RETAIL COST: $19.99 I got my Raphael from Target. The website only seems to have Mikey left so if you want to order him you can click HERE.
